XTC, a new baselayer from The North Face, utilizes innovative Bamboo Charcoal technology, a process by which the bamboo pant is carbonized at very high temperatures and infused into yarns to enhance performance qualities.

The end result of this process is a high-performance product that wicks moisture rapidly, inhibits odors, and blocks harmful UV rays, all in a highly compressible, comfortable base layer.

Bamboo Charcoal technology utilizes the highly porous nature of carbon to greatly increase the surface area of the fabric. In some cases, the surface area of the product may equate to a football field. Consequently, moisture has more space to wick, disperse, and dry more quickly. Studies show that Bamboo technology achieves a 50-percent increase in moisture transfer compared to standard polyester. The increased surface area of the treated fabric also absorbs and decomposes odor-causing molecules. As a serious added bonus, the same porous structure of the molecules traps harmful rays, delivering UPF 50+ protection.
